Bottle Palm : Hyophorbe Lagenicaulis
General information: The Bottle palm is a very unusual, sculptural Florida palm tree. It has a bottle shaped, swollen, ringed, gray, concrete trunk and a canopy of only 4-8 pinnate, stiff and smooth leaves. It grows to a height of 10-12 feet.

Growth rate: The Bottle palm has slow growth rate. It takes years to reach its mature height.
Habitat: It is endemic to the Round island of the Mascerene. In its native habitat it is endangered.
Maintenance: The Hyophorbe Lagenicaulis is easy to care for. This Florida palm grows well in the tropics in partial to full sun. It highly salt resistant and moderately drought tolerant. It requires frequent watering, the trunk does not store water. The oddly plant is not cold hardy and can not take even light frost.
Uses: It is a widely used landscape item for small to large landscapes. This attractive Florida palm also makes a great potted plant for indoor and patio.
