Ponytail Palm : Beaucamea Recurvata
General information: The Florida palm looks like both a ponytail and an elephant foot, hence its common names. The Ponyatail palm slowly grows to a height of 4 to 7 feet. This oddly Florida palm has a gray, inflated trunk and narrow, grass-like, drooping, 6 feet long leaflets.

Growth rate: The Florida palm has slow growth rate. It takes a decade to reach a height of 5-7 feet.
Habitat: These Florida palms are native to the deserts in southeastern Mexico. In nature it grows to a height of 30 feet.
Maintenance: These Florida palm trees are very easy to grow. They are very drought resistant and can survive about one month without water (they store water in their bases). Water it deeply every week or every two weeks. They prefer full sun. When grown inside, this Florida palm tree should receive as much light as possible. Fertilize the Ponytail palm once during the growing season.
Uses: This Florida palm can be used as a container plant for indoors, outdoor and in landscape design. In landscapes it is often used as a single specimen.
